Family dentistry

Children's dentist in Auckland

A good early experience of the dentist sets your child up for a lifetime of easy visits, and that's exactly what we aim for. We keep things friendly, gentle and unhurried, building trust so your tamariki actually look forward to coming in rather than dreading it. And it doesn't stop when they're little: eligible teens can get free basic dental care right up to their 18th birthday under the national scheme, so there's every reason to keep those good habits going. Just mention your teen's age when you book and we'll help check eligibility.

Free dental care for teens

Here's something plenty of whānau don't realise: under the national scheme (the Combined Dental Agreement), eligible teens can get free basic dental care right up to their 18th birthday. Basic care covers the essentials, things like check-ups, X-rays where needed, cleans, fluoride and fillings, so the routine visits that keep young teeth on track don't have to be a cost worry through the high school years.

Eligibility criteria apply, and some treatment sits outside basic care (orthodontics or cosmetic work, for example), so the simplest thing is to mention your teen's age and school year when you book. We'll help confirm their eligibility and let you know clearly if anything they need isn't covered, before it happens, never after.

Got a teen due a check-up? and we'll help confirm their eligibility for free basic care when you call.

When to start, and what we watch for

As a rule of thumb, bring your child in around their first birthday or when their first teeth come through. Early visits are mostly about getting them comfortable and catching anything early, not big treatment. As they grow, we keep an eye on how their teeth and jaw are developing, apply fluoride and sealants where they help, and gently coach good brushing and eating habits. A big part of children's dentistry is simply making the chair a friendly place, so a nervous wee one leaves smiling.

Prevention is the whole game

With kids especially, a little prevention saves a lot of treatment. Regular check-ups let us spot early decay while it's tiny, sealants protect the grooves of back teeth where cavities love to start, and fluoride strengthens young enamel. We'll also give you practical, no-fuss tips for home: brushing that actually works, and the sugar habits worth watching, so good teeth become second nature for them.
