Gum disease treatment

Bleeding, red or puffy gums are your mouth's early warning light, and the reassuring part is how treatable it is when caught in time. A little early attention protects the teeth those gums hold in place, freshens your breath, and looks after your wider health too. Leave it too long and gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults, but that's exactly why acting on the early signs is such a simple win.

The two stages, and where you might sit

Gum disease comes in two broad stages, and where you sit changes the plan. The early stage, gingivitis, is inflammation of the gums, bleeding and puffiness, and it's usually fully reversible with a professional clean and better technique at home. The more advanced stage, periodontitis, is where the infection has started to affect the bone; we can't undo bone that's already lost, but we can absolutely halt the disease and keep your teeth stable for the long term with deeper cleaning and regular maintenance. Most people who come in with bleeding gums are in the early, very fixable stage, which is exactly why acting on it now matters.

Noticed bleeding when you brush? . The earlier we look, the simpler it is to sort.

What the treatment involves

For early gum disease, a thorough professional clean and a few tweaks to how you brush and floss usually turns things around within weeks. For more established disease, we carry out a deeper clean (scaling and root planing) that removes hardened plaque and bacteria from below the gumline where a brush can't reach, sometimes over a couple of visits and with the area numbed for comfort. From there it's about maintenance: a regular cleaning rhythm that keeps the disease switched off.
