We have some news we are genuinely excited to share. A modern 3D digital scanner is coming soon to Supertooth Dental at the Auckland Airport Shopping Centre, and it is going to make a number of visits more comfortable and more precise for our patients across Auckland.
Something new is coming to Supertooth
Coming soon, from September 2026, Supertooth Dental is introducing a Dentsply Sirona Primescan digital scanner. It is a small handheld device that captures a detailed, three-dimensional picture of your teeth and gums, and it replaces the old way of taking moulds for many treatments.
As a digital dentist at the Auckland Airport precinct, we look after busy professionals and families who value comfort, convenience and modern care. This is one more step in that direction, and we wanted to tell our patients about it early.
Goodbye goopy moulds
If you have ever had a dental impression taken, you will remember the tray of thick putty, the strong taste, and for some people, the urge to gag while it sets. For anyone with a sensitive gag reflex, or younger patients, that part of a visit can be the worst bit.
A digital dental scanner does away with all of that. A gentle wand, about the size of an electric toothbrush head, moves around your mouth and builds a precise 3D scan on screen in minutes. There is no putty and no waiting for it to set, and you can pause any time you need to. Best of all, you get to see your own teeth on the screen straight away, which makes it much easier to understand what we are looking at together.

A digital scan supports a wide range of everyday treatments, and often means fewer repeat visits and a faster turnaround from the dental lab. Here are some of the ways it helps.

- Will the digital scan be uncomfortable?
- For most people it is far easier than a traditional mould. A small wand moves gently around your mouth with no putty and no setting time, and we can pause whenever you need.
- Do I need to do anything to prepare?
- No special preparation is needed. Just come to your appointment as usual, and we will talk you through the scan and show you your teeth on the screen.
- When is the scanner arriving?
- It is coming soon, from [insert month]. Keep an eye on our website and Google profile, or ask us at your next visit, and we will let you know once it is in use.
- Is a digital scan better than a mould?
- It is more comfortable for most patients and captures fine detail well, which can help restorations fit and reduce repeat visits. Your dentist will still choose the right approach for your treatment.
